SNL’s Bill Hader Back as Host of TCM Essentials Jr. Summer Showcase 2012 Edition of Sunday Night Showcase To Launch June 3 with 12 Angry Men (1957) 


Actor and writer Bill Hader (Saturday Night Live) will return to Turner Classic Movies (TCM) this summer to host the network’s popular TCM Essentials Jr. showcase. Hader will present 13 films that are ideal for parents to introduce to kids, beginning Sunday, June 3, at 8 p.m. (ET) with 12 Angry Men (1957), the gripping story of guilt or innocence starring Oscar® winner, Henry Fonda and directed by legendary filmmaker Sidney Lumet.
This marks Hader’s third outing with TCM. He served as host of TCM Essentials Jr. last year, presenting 13 films throughout the summer. Prior to that, he appeared on TCM as a Guest Programmer.
Hader has been a fixture on Saturday Night Live for the past seven years and works as a producer onSouth Park. He has also turned in memorable performances in such films as Tropic Thunder, Night at the Museum 2, Superbad and Forgetting Sarah Marshall.
TCM Essentials Jr. runs Sunday evenings throughout the summer. In addition to 12 Angry Men, Hader will host June presentations of The Wizard of Oz (1939), the classic starring Judy Garland; Rio Bravo(1959), a western tale starring John Wayne and Dean Martin; and The Circus (1928), in which Charlie Chaplin’s famous Tramp character finds love at the circus.
In July, TCM Essentials Jr. will feature the favorite canine tale Lassie Come Home (1943), starring Roddy McDowall and Elizabeth Taylor; the comic gem The Bank Dick (1940), starring W.C. Fields; the high-flying adventure The Thief of Bagdad (1940); the true World War II adventure The Great Escape (1963); and the colorful musical The Band Wagon (1953). In August, the showcase will wrap up with the sci-fi classic The Invisible Man (1933), the high-stepping musical 42nd Street (1933), Alfred Hitchcock’s nail-biting spy thriller North by Northwest (1959) and the romantic screwball comedy Ball of Fire (1941).
